SCHERTZ-CIBOLO OPTIMIST CLUB
READY FOR
CHARTER MEETING!

The Schertz-Cibolo Optimist Club met Monday evening, May 23, 2005, to complete final preparations for its Charter Organizational Meeting which will
be held on Monday evening, June 6, 2005. The club has fulfilled all the necessary
requirements to become a Charter Club with the worldwide Optimist organization.
Optimist International Past Vice President and Field Representative, R.E.
Windham, will be present to lead the club in the organizational process.

The May 23rd meeting was called to order by our club?’s nominee for First Club
President, Donna Turner. Following an opening prayer and Pledge to the Flag,
Donna welcomed members, new members, and visitors. First-time meeting
attendees who were welcomed as new members were: Sid Dukes and Michelle and
Trevor Borth. Along with Michelle and Trevor was son and Opti-Baby Cooper, who was noticeably well-behaved in his high chair. We are hoping soon Cooper will be joined by (Cowboy) Opti-Baby Will, son of Amanda and Alex Hartman!
Cooper is a charmer and we look forward to meeting Will soon! Optimism is about youth and families; family members are always welcome at our meetings. Welcome, also, Kelly Smith, a very recent new member!

Donna continued the meeting?’s agenda by sharing some enthusiastic, positive
comments concerning our club?’s future. Bobbie Dyer gave a brief overview of the
work session which took place at the previous meeting. Reports were shared by
members of the three groups: Chase Frederick-By Laws; Alex Hartman-Nominating Committee; Janae Beebe-Suggestions for Projects and Fund Raising
Ideas. All three reporters did a great job giving information from each respective work group.

Jack Hopkins gave club members an idea of the agenda which will take place
at the Charter Organizational Meeting, June 6. Items he covered were voting on
officers, necessary motions which will be required, general business to be conducted,
and the Board Meeting which will follow the general meeting. All club members are
welcome at all Board Meetings.

Rand Dyer discussed suggestions on items which are necessary for effective club
operation. One was eating with the club when possible with the purpose of showing
appreciation to owner, Ray Harmon, He has been most gracious in permitting our
club the use of Harmon?’s meeting room at no cost to the club. He further mentioned it will be helpful to have greeters at the entrance to the meeting room to assist in the Member and Visitor Sign-In Sheets. He concluded by encouraging club members to visit and get-acquainted with one another.

THE BIG REMINDER

Our June 6 meeting will be one of the most important times when it will be necessary to have as many members in attendance as possible. To charter as an official Optimist club, we are required to have 60% of our membership in attendance. Remember the meeting is
JUNE 6, 2005
at
HARMON?’S BARBECUE

A buffet will be set up in the meeting room for $7.25 per person. You can pay for dinner at the front counter and you will receive a ticket to go through the buffet line. There will be three meats from which you can select two of your choice. Side choices will be available along with ice tea and cold drinks available from the front room. Meal will be served at 6:30 P.M. Meeting will begin at 7:00 P.M.

Donna closed our meeting by repeating a welcome to members and guests. The meeting adjourned with the Optimist Creed. Optimists headed for home with the pleasure of knowing the Schertz-Cibolo Optimist Club now has 38
members and is well on its way to achieving success under the very capable leadership of Donna Turner, the super support of excellent officers and board of directors, and club members willing to serve youth and community.
