Board of Directors Meeting
The Board of Directors?’ held a meeting in the community room of Fire Station 16 on February 18th. Board members were introduced to Captain Bill Sargant who explained the workings of the new station. The Board of Directors of SHNA heard guest speakers on two topics at its February 18th meeting: A proposal submitted in January to our NW Coalition Board asking the member neighborhoods to support a request for a public process on the Open Reservoir issue, and a proposed surcharge on speeding violations to fund traffic engineering and safety improvements. The majority of the Board members in attendance voted to abstain from taking a position on the Arlington Heights proposal. A majority of Board members voted against the surcharge.
Fire Station 16
Captain Sargant shared the following information about the beautiful new station: Three four man crews rotate on 24-hour shifts seven days a week. Emergency personnel are currently driving around the area so they can be responsive when an emergency arises. Captain Sargant assured Board members that fire fighters will exercise sensitivity for neighbors in their use of lights and sirens on the truck. Fire fighters are available for the following services at this station: pulse and blood pressure readings, CPR training, and evaluation of individual properties to make recommendations for clearing a defensible space around a home in the event of a fire. Call Captain Sargant to discuss any of these services at 823-4603.
A lovely community room is available for rentals. Please contact Portland Fire Bureau at 823-3700 or view our neighborhood web site for further information.
Portland Fire Bureau has scheduled an Open House for the Station 16 on Thursday, March 13, from 10:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Commissioner Jim Francesconi, Fire Chief Ed Wilson, and Commissioner Eric Sten will be a few of the dignitaries in attendance. The community is encouraged to attend and tour the new facility.
