Snell Isle Sells 2006 ?– ( sign up now ! ! ! )
Please support our September 9th Isle wide garage sale effort and sign up early to be on our map. Clean out and sell your ?“treasures.?” Encourage your children to participate by either selling or setting up lemonade stands, etc. This is a good way to teach them basic commerce at their level. What you don?’t sell or donate you can have hauled away free of charge on Monday, September 11th during Snell Isle?’s FREE Neighborhood Cleanup Day.
School Starts in August ?– Watch for Children
Many schools will start in late August. Please slow down and tell your
neighbors and friends to do the same. School zone speed limit is 15mph.
The police will be out enforcing that. A child?’s life is NEVER worth that
extra minute you saved speeding.
2007 Snell Isle (Phase Three) Lighting Grant Proposal Submitted
We want to again thank Mary Evertz and the Snell Isle Foundation for their generous support and use of Foundation Funds for our Historic Lighting project along Snell Isle Blvd. These are monies which you have so generously donated over the part years. Phase Three will install historic-style lights along Snell Isle Boulevard from Palmera Boulevard south to Monterey Boulevard.
Our grant proposal for 2007 funding was turned in on June 30. Although not due until September 8th, we receive 20 extra bonus points for early submittal. With more proposals than money, we needed to have the bonus points. A select Committee will review all proposals, rank them and forward the finalists to City Council. We hope and pray that our grant proposal is accepted. If we pass, I would ask you to contact all Councilmen and ask for their support when they vote on funding in October.
Summer Fun for All on Snell Isle
With just a few weeks left of summer vacation, your kids are looking for more fun things to do. Did you know that there is a treasure trove of exciting adventures just waiting for them around every corner on Snell Isle?
How about taking your kids on a special ?“Animal Adventure Safari?” to count the number of Panther statues they can find in just their immediate neighborhood. How about counting the griffins or lions? Which griffins have lost one or both wings and where are they?
Can you count the number of lady statues in the Parkway along Snell Isle Blvd.? How high up does the fountain spray a jet stream of water? Can you guess? Which statue has a backrest of a high green hedge? Can you count the number of marble tiles in the Memorial at the south end of the Park?
How about a walk along the first two blocks of Brightwaters Blvd. to count all the birds nesting on Bird Island? How many different birds can you name? There are currently six different types. How many pelicans are swimming around the Bird Island looking for fish?
Bet you did not know you could have so much fun just a few blocks away from home. Of course, walking this area is recommended early in the morning or in the cool of the evening. One final walk you do not want to miss. Walk over to Coffee Pot Lane and sit on the seawall behind the Woman?’s Club. Watch the absolutely gorgeous sun setting over Coffee Pot Bayou. Now you know why we love this area . . . even on the hot August days of summer.
