SNAPP March 17, 2011 Minutes

The Meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m.

The meeting began with a moment of silence.

All Officers were present per the roll call.

Minutes from the February meeting were read & approved with changes noted.

TPD Report by Capt Mark Timpf-Robbery issues occurring in the Valencia-Irvington-Ajo corridors have decrease due to TPD working those areas. Capt. Timpf also discussed the creation of the Division Advisory Committee (DAC).  

Treasurers Report by Maggie Gerring- no changes from last month, she will refer to the Town hall Grant rather than the Mayor & Council Grant. as previously stated.

Round Table of Neighborhoods was limited to 3 minutes each. One Representative per neighborhood will speak at the round table. President Joe Miller requests e-mails prior to the meeting with brief notes on concerns & announcements for each neighborhood.

Cherry Ave-Maureen Fisher-N/A meets the 3rd Sat of every other month. They will supply stuffed toys to TPD for children whose parents have been arrested.  Cross-light on Bantam & Campbell is still being anticipated.

Rose-Henry Vega-N/A meets 3rd Wednesday of the month-Concerned about pot-hole repairs. Joe Flores spoke on the award for their new bridge and how much it meant to the people in the neighborhood who had worked so hard on this project.

Barrio Kroger Lane-Margaret Ward-N/A meets 1st Monday of the month-they are seeing their Reinvestment Grant in action in the way of basketball court and ramada with handicap access.

Santa Cruz Southwest-Beryl Baker-N/A meets as needed. A workshop has brought SCSW people & organizations together so they can all work together and be more effective in their efforts.

Bravo Park Lane-Sandra Fimbres-N/A meets quarterly(April). NA is reorganizing; they supports Urban Farming & National Take Back Day to drop off unwanted medications for proper disposal to be held April .

Sunnyside-Beki Quintero-N/A meets  3rd Monday of the month. March 26, at the Apollo Middleschool a celebration for literacy and a talent show will be held from 2-4.   A  Farmers Market will be held on April 2 from 9-12 at Nogales Hwy & 6th Ave.

Enchanted Hills-Karin Aguilar-N/A meets 1st Thursday of month  The neighborhood is working on graffiti issues themselves and getting paint from GPC.

Park Ave-Maggie Gerring-N/A meets 2nd Tuesday of the month.  On March 26 a celebration for literacy will be held at 36th & Park Ave from 4-6.  Costco will have their grand opening on April 14th.

Elvira-Dave Densmore-N/A meets the 2nd Monday of the month.  The tree planting & dedication for the new walking path will be held on April 2nd at 9:00 a.m.

Midvale-Joe Miller-N/A meets 1st Thursday of the month.  They are organizing an Easter egg hunt on April 23rd at the park next to Grajalva Elementary School.

Ward One Report-Amy Santos-March 2nd they hosted a successful Business forum with over 100 participants to learn issues of small businesses and to assist in startup procedures.  On March 19th the American Red Cross will hold a Save-A-Live Event in honor of Gabriella Gifford. March 26 is the Cesar Chavez March & Rally.  Contact Ward One at 791-4040 for more information.

Legislative Report-Maureen Fisher urges everyone to write a letter of protest against the controls the state wants to mandate over the cities and towns on their abilities to create new revenue sources and capping those amounts.  It is being held in the Rules Committee at this time.  Russell Pearce is heading this bill.  SB#1220 & 1221

DAC--Cpt. Mark Timpf-TPD is looking for N/A Presidents, Business & Education leaders to form DAC.  They will obtain feedback & input on priorities, share information on how TPD operates, what they are doing, why, & discuss goals for neighborhoods.  They will meet for one hour on a quarterly basis at 5:30 p.m. before the SNAPP meetings.  First date yet to be determined.

Committee to review SNAPP By-Laws.  Joe Flores (Rose); Maggie Gerring (Park Ave) David Densmore( Elvira) & Buck Crouch (Sunnyside).

Joe requested everyone bring back ideas on what they want SNAPP to be & what our goals should be for this coming year.
