Approved SNAPP June 16, 2011 Minutes

 

The Meeting was called to order at 6:34 p.m.

The meeting began with a moment of silence.

All Officers were present per the roll call.

Minutes  from the March, April & May meetings were approved with changes noted.

TPD Report by Sgt Broderick.  Capt Batista is in the hospital ICU.  Lt Rizzi is acting captain for now.  DAC will not be established until he returns. The Gang Unit is actively investigating the recent homicides and home invasions.

Treasurers Report by Maggie Gerring- no changes from last month. Please Bring cans!

Guest Speaker: Anita Fagen from Imagine a Greater Tucson.  They are working to set values to improve the quality of life here in Tucson.  Plan Tucson is also using Imagine Greater Tucson's values. See imaginegreatertucson.com for more information.

Neighborhood Round Table   limited to 3 minutes for each neighborhood. One Representative per neighborhood will speak at the round table. President Joe Miller requests e-mails prior to the meeting with notes on concerns & announcements for each neighborhood.

Cherry Ave-Maureen Fisher-Recruiting project via mailed postcards accomplished. Ongoing graffiti monitoring. June 16, 2011 meeting will feature a presentation by Bilby Partners regarding their proposed renovation of 88 townhomes for large low income families at 6280 S Campbell Ave.

Barrio Kroger Lane-Margaret Ward-is joining with Menlo Park & Panorama Heights, along with other interested parties to draw up a document jointly stating wishes for future development of the area.  Concerned about minidorm, and the streetcar line once it is constructed. Like to have input on the direction of future developments.

Enchanted Hills-Karin Aguilar-Officially appointed by her NA to represent them at SNAPP.  They are in the process of getting additional bus stops on W 36th St, on the waiting list.  Many street signs are no longer readable and are in the process of getting them replaced.

Arroyo Chico-Les Pierce-(A)The Military/Community Relations Committee (MRSC) is investigating creation of a sound attenuation program modeled after the one used by TIA that will reduce jet noise in homes in DMAFB's high-noise zones. (B) The vacant acquired homes on the north side of 22nd St between Tucson Blvd & the UPRR bridge will be demolished this month as part of the 22nd St widening project (C) the "feral cat lady" has trapped her first & will be creating donation cans set up in nearby businesses to help cover expenses.

Santa Cruz Southwest-Beryl Baker-Community Garden moving along, encourages youth involvement in the community. 

Park Ave-Maggie Gerring-neighborhood is still working on the same issues.

 Elvira-Dave Densmore-Street light project will begin soon. Working on our Aug Night Out event.

 Midvale-Mike Taylor reported that Midvale will officially joint SNAPP.  Clean up  of neighborhood parks have become a regular Saturday event for them.

Legislative Report-Maureen Fisher-higher property taxes.

Presidents Report-Joe Miller-wants SNAPP to become a registered Neighborhood Coalition.  To do this each neighborhood president or elected representative needs to (1) discuss this at your N/A meeting to find out if your neighborhood Association wants to be a member SNAPP (2) bring a copy of N/A Agenda (3) bring a copy of minutes showing the neighborhood has approved being represented by SNAPP and (4) bring a copy of N/A Sign-In Sheet from your meeting when this occurred.

Beryl questioned the purpose and benefits of SNAPP becoming a City Of Tucson recognized coalition. Several members insist we need to take a vote to see if this is what SNAPP members want to have happen.  No vote has ever been taken on this issue.

Secretary's note: When Joe Miller ran for president of SNAPP he stated this was one of his goals for SNAPP if he were to be elected. He clearly voiced this idea as part of his vision of what SNAPP would be if he was elected.
