With the year 2000 behind us, many individuals have entered this, a new year, with a set of resolutions on how they can be thinner, more fit, stop smoking and the list goes on. These resolutions are indeed important as we should all continue to take stock and see where we need improvement. Yet, the greatest types of resolutions we can make concern our service (or lack thereof) to God. One of the many ways that we serve God is by coming together as a Church to study, pray and worship God, in addition to observing the Lord's Supper and giving back to God on the first day of every week. Some don't attend like they should. This should not be the case.
If your attendance is not as it should be, make a resolution to attend ALL the assemblies of the Church. Many like to attend just on Sundays and don't consider Wednesday evening Bible study important. Others attend only on Sunday morning and fail to return for the additional hour of worship and study on Sunday evenings at 6:00. Still others attend only once every couple of weeks. This habit is POOR. And, if you are one whose attendance is lacking, you need to change it. While some might have legitimate reasons for not being at ALL the services, most "reasons" offered are mere excuses. If you would resolve to attend all the services (Sunday: 9:30 A.M., 10:30 A.M., 6:00 P.M. and Wednesday: 7:00 P.M.) you would do two things. One, you would build your own faith and knowledge of God's word and two, you would serve as an encouragement to others.
The Hebrew writer states that we are not to forsake "the assembling of ourselves together" but instead "consider one another in order to stir up love and good works" (Hebrews 10:24-25). Are you being considerate of your brothers and sisters in Christ? Are you being respectful of this, a command of God? If not, make a resolution today to change and to be more faithful to Him.
