Ashcreek/Crestwood receives watershed grant

Oct 07, 1998

The Ashcreek and Crestwood Neighborhood Associations and the Crestwood Headwaters Group are conducting a study under a grant from the Bureau of Environmental Services Stewardship Program to inventory the flow of stormwater through each property and inventory private stormwater facilities in the watershed of the South Fork of Ashcreek . Each household will be interviewed during the upcoming wet season and the information collated into a single series of maps accompanied by a written assessment.
This will be the first step towards the design of a stormwater master plan for the watershed, and will pilot methods that will then be expanded to other watersheds and neighborhoods to assess stormwater for the drainages in Southwest.
Mailings to the residents in the watershed will be made in advance of the study, explaining the program and announ#i.g dates of the survey.
Training of Volunteers will be with the assistance of BES. Volunteers will be familiarized with the methodology of the project, given copies of a black and white topographical map with house footprints, along with questionnaires, writing implements, a list of map symbols and copies of the previous mailing explaining the project.
Volunteers will need to attend one training session, three training sessions tentatively will be given with BES assistance between November 16th and December 3, 1998.
On-site Stormwater Assessment Project
Door-to-Door Interviews and Data Collection will involve volunteers canvassing each household in the study area, interviewing the occupants to assess the stormwater flows in and adjacent to each property. There will be 12 teams of two volunteers each.
Each team will be assigned an estimated 70 households.
Given an approximate 15 minutes per household, each team should allow for 18 hours of interviews over six weekends. Time is allowed for revisiting sites where there is nobody available to interview. This will allow some flexibility for volunteers to complete their assignments.
There will be six weekends available within which volunteers will need to fulfill their assignments:

December 5 & 6, 12 & 13, 1998
(December 19 & 20 optional)
January 9 & 10, 16 & 17, 23 & 24, 30 & 31, 1999
