SPNA Meeting Minutes 6-2-2008

Maggie Gerring called the meeting to order at 6:37 p.m. Introductions were made and the dues basket passed. Minutes from the May 5, 2008 meeting were read and approved. Residents were reminded there will be no SPNA meeting in July or August. The next meeting will be Sept. 8.

TPD was not present for a police report. Residents were urged to continue reporting suspicious activities.

Suzanne Shields, Director of Flood Control for Pima County reported on the Mission View Wash Detention Basin project to be built on the Bridges property. The 23-acre basin will control water from the Mission View Wash, Greyhound Wash and Downtown Airport Wash which has caused flooding of some homes and businesses in southwest South Park. Construction of the basin is expected to begin this summer. As soon as the Board of Supervisors approves the project a small area will be hollowed out and dirt piled along 36th and Park to contain the water on the Bridges property until the proposed basin can be built.

Corky Poster reported on the process to reassign Allen Hall to a civilian, public-benefit use. Although the neighborhood supported the proposal for Emergency Management and PCC Public Safety courses, the City Council Subcommittee has chosen to pursue the proposal for Parks and Recreation offices and maintenance combined with a COPE/RISE recycling center. Corky attempted to address numerous questions and concerns posed by the residents, who were urged to attend a public meeting scheduled for the following evening. Residents wanted to continue pushing for the Emergency Management and PCC proposal.

Maggie reported on the Neighbor's Interest Survey taken at the May meeting. The items that received the most votes were having a resource list of people in the neighborhood who do various types of work (handyman, painting, landscaping etc.) and having a produce exchange.

Bill Seitz reported that the Citizens Advisory Committee for improvements to 22nd St. and Kino Parkway has approved a single-point urban interchange for that intersection. Work can now begin on the design phase.

Attention was called to numerous events and announcements printed on the agenda. Residents were reminded that Brush and Bulky Trash pickup is June 9 and they should not dump trash in alleys.

Door prizes were awarded and the meeting adjourned at 8:05 p.m.
