South of Main Renovations Completed

Nov 12, 2000

Unless you've been away for a
while, you can't help but notice the
new curbs, sidewalks, and street
lights that now adorn major parts
of the South of Main. This was
done with one and a half million
dollars of the City's Urban
Infrastructure Program started by
former Councilman Michael
Coleman. The competition for this
money was fierce so we are
blessed to win over other parts of
the City. The same company that
did our renovations, Columbus
Asphalt, will also be finishing the
sidewalk and curb restorations on
Main Street. The green stuff that
was sprayed is actually new grass.
You can assist in its growth by
helping to WATER. We also want
to thank Richard Cooley, Marvin
Moore, Larry Roberts, and other
neighbors for watching the freshly
poured cement to keep it from
being damaged. A special thanks
to Mr. Walter Cates, President of
the Main Street Business Area
(MSBA) and the Neighborhood
Empowerment Council (NEC) who
spearheaded the project and
worked tirelessly to insure that
every thing went smoothly. This is
just the beginning. Get excited.
This is your neighborhood, your
home.

SIDEWALKS

Scott Hudson, owner of Columbus
Asphalt who recently installed the
new sidewalks, offered some tips
for keeping them in good shape.
Salt does a lot of damage to newly
poured cement. He recommends
spraying the sidewalk with a
sealant and using a non-salt
product to melt ice. Contact any
hardware store to find these items.
Also with winter approaching, it's a
good idea to add mulch in the
garden area.
