One School District In Natomas

Posted in: Natomas
Currently there five distinct school districts in Natomas. Many Natomas residence feel the boundries divide the community. Some long term residents in older neighborhoods such as Gardenside, feel it is unreasonable to transport children to schools like Grant, when in Natomas High is closer. One illustration: Homes the border the New Natomas High School is in another district.
The Merging of all school districts would require a ballot measure and some of the existing districts might resist.

Fixing Our Schools

Rod, I think you are right on target. I think that we must focus on the problems at hand, pick our battles, and then choose the appropriate means to solve them. It's no secret that our school districts need help. They didn't do too well in the most recent ranking and comparison by the State of California. This tells me that our schools need to become more of a priority. A campaign to unify all of the school districts may help, but it could also divide our community as we fight for control. Maybe the solution is more simple. Maybe we can come together as a community to discuss the problems in the classrooms. As a community we can take on those issues and make some positive improvements in our classrooms. Before we begin to divide, let's build a consensus on the issues. Rod has exactly the right idea. Our schools need to be better.
