Health & Human Services Secretary Thompson:
As a concerned citizen and supporter of the National Vaccine
Information Center, I call upon you to issue an immediate recall of all
childhood vaccine stocks remaining on the market in the U.S. that contain
the mercury-based preservative Thimerosal.
As you know, the FDA ordered pharmaceutical companies to remove
mercury from vaccines in 1999. But Thimerosal-containing vaccines are
still available in the U.S. despite the neurotoxic risks associated with
mercury. I believe childhood vaccines should be held to at least the same
safety standards applied to other drugs and consumer products that are
now mercury-free.
Under the Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986, you have the
authority to recall vaccines in order to reduce the risks of adverse
reactions. With so many young lives at risk, we pray that you will take
this important step immediately.
I am counting on you to make childhood vaccines as safe as possible
for America?’s children, ?“?…in order to reduce the risks of adverse
reactions to vaccines.?”
