Human Embryonic Stem Cell Registry

Nov 08, 2001

The National Institutes of Health has posted the NIH Human Embryonic
Stem
Cell Registry based on President Bush's criteria for federally funded
stem
cell research that was announced on August 9. The registry contains
information on 72 embryonic stem cells lines, including 57 that are
available for federally funded research.

HHS has released the executive summary of a study comparing programs
that
emphasize early employment with those that emphasize skill-building,
finding
that a work-first approach helped welfare recipients find jobs more
quickly
and was less expensive for states to operate. Both types of programs
helped
single parents work during more quarters than they would have without
welfare-to-work assistance.
