Public Supports Safety Net for Legal Immigrants

Jul 03, 2002

A majority of voters (52 percent) believe it is the government?’s role to provide a safety net. A substantial majority (67 percent) also agree that legal immigrants should have the same access to public benefits as citizens. Support for ensuring legal immigrant access to public benefits is even higher (79 percent) when voters are reminded that legal immigrants pay taxes.
