October 8- According to a press release from the National Council of La
Raza, Hispanic children have the highest uninsurance rates among United
States children. These statistics, which include children under age
18,
are based on national data released by the United States Census Bureau.
Some of the statistics include:
*There are approximately 550,000 more uninsured Latinos than there were
in 2000, a statistically significant increase.
*Among the Hispanic poor, 43.7% lack health insurance, up from 43.3%
last year and compared with 25.5% and 26.2% of poor non-Hispanic Whites
and Blacks, respectively.
*Projections indicate that by 2020 one in five children will be of
Hispanic origin, Latino children have the highest uninsurance rates in
the U.S. child population.
*24.1% of Latino children are uninsured compared to 7.4% of
non-Hispanic White children and 13.9 of Black children.
