Respect-O-Meter: Valued Neighbor
Broken Pedometer Pathways

I have lived in the Lansbrook neighborhood for several (11) years and personally believe it is potentially a grand environment. The recent (July 2008) "RAG" Parks and Greenbelt article that stated in part "TAKE A STROLL" triggered a personal concern that I have with associated approximately 3 miles of "association" sidewalks.

It seems that little attention has been given to the existing condition of those sidewalks. I must own that I have procrastinated and have not actively pursued a solution to its' current state until now. Infrastructure issues are normally difficult to solve, not usually romantic, and easily ignored in pursuit of new projects. To that end, I suggest that the "association" plan, develop, budget, and manage an Infrastructure fund.If each member of the board (committees) including the president will donate each, I will also donate $110. My contribution will only amount to $10 a year, That is approximately the cost of 2 "Movie" tickets and/or 2 Venti Lattes per year.

Over the last 11 years if each "association" household (approximately 320) had contributed $10 each year, the infrastructure fund would currently have accumulated approximately $35,200, not including any accrued interest. I believe not only would the sidewalks presently be in pristine condition but all the bridges, benches etc. could be as well.

I have had and will continue this conversation with my block neighbors as well. Some of those individuals have indicated that they would donate $10 a year for the period discussed above. Even if only 70% of the "association" households did as such, that amounts to approximately $25,000.

I welcome any constructive thoughts as to the pursuant of this issue and/or any additional related ideas.

Thank you for your time, patience, and consideration.

Correction:

"If each member of the board (committees) including the president will donate each, I will also donate $110." should read: If each member of the board (committees) including the president will donate $110 each, I will also donate $110.

Thanks, Ken -- I'll be sure to watch how the discussion grows.  I would also like to see ADA compliance as well.

Well now

The Board is always interested in improving Lansbrook and we like to see volunteers who will participate and not sit on the side lines.  Your Board is very busy with the changing/updating  of our covenants, and we could use your help with your interests.  Can you organize this project and enlist more Lansbrook Residents?  We, like you; are interested in the decay of our walks.  But we are simply out of time to take on this project.  Can you help?  Do you have the time?

By the way, we have on the average $16,000.00 per month in delinquent dues.  Can you imagine what we could do, if all of our residents paid on time?

And challinging me with a financial goal is not so bad.  In fact I like it.  Why don't we raise the Stakes!

Your President,  Jim D. Duncan
