History of Darnall

Does anyone remember when the river ran through Darnall?
History of Darnall

My aunt used to own a home on Thorn St., 1951-1955. She remembers during that time everyone in the community was assessed a fee to pay for the filling in and paving over of the stream. The problem was that many children were killed while ''darting'' back and forth between their homes and the stream, where they'd play.

I hope that one day this seemingly fifty plus year old problem, children playing across Streamview Drive, will end. We need a better, safer place for them, and some controls to stop this dangerous activity. It appears that we are willing to sacrifice their safety for the parking in the middle of the road there. Having cars there gives drivers no way of seeing these unsupervised children as they dart between cars and across the road. Think about it, as you drive you usually have time to see them coming from one side so you can watch the other closely, but on Streamview Drive you need to watch both sides and maybe have a foot or so to react, a tragedy waiting to happen. Any thoughts, no matter what form are welcome!
