2002 August 8 Board of Directors Meeting MINUTES

Board of Directors Meeting Minutes, August 8, 2002

August 8, 2002
San Gabriel Neighborhood Association
Board of Directors Meeting
Minutes

Present: Edgar Schrock, President; Robert Redding, Vice President;
Nathanael Addison, Treasurer; and Fran Westra, Neighborhood Advocate

Called to order at 4:00
Agenda:
I. Discuss vacancies in the board. It was announced that there are two
vacancies in the Board, Nancy Patterson, Historian has resigned because
she is moving to work in Ohio. Alice Jones has resigned, due to family
commitments that conflict with Association meeting times.

Upon review of the bylaws, it was agreed that the bylaws state, whether
or not it was the intention, that vacancies must be filled by a joint
meeting of the Board and Block Captains. It was decided that the
earliest meeting that would fit schedules was after August 20, 2002.
Candidates were discussed for the vacancies, with a conscious effort to
find replacements from the new areas, Palomar and the Details. Names
proposed to approach on the issue were: Lucia Sayres, Wendy Carlson,
Jeff Ingram, each from Palomar; Elyssa Fletcher, Glenn Brown from
Details 2 & 3; and Linda Mills of San Gabriel. Fran Westra said she'd
ask the Block Captains to think of possible nominees. Edgar said he'd
call the people on the list for whom we had phone numbers, to see if
they were interested in the nomination.

II. September Agenda:
Treasurer's Report
Minutes
Traffic Report
Trees for Tucson
Social Committee
Neighborhood Watch report
Name change discussion
Action Plan, with MetroNet

III. Direction for the Association, now through February, 2003.
Again, focusing on increasing the sense of community, the Board feels
that the Neighborhood Watch program is our best hope of creating little
pockets of interaction. Through the Watch program, people will get to
know each other, can rely on each other a little bit more, and create
more lasting relationships. The Watch can be a way to organize block
captain's areas, schedule potlucks, and so on.

Also to enhance the 'neighborliness' of the area, we decided to make
Welcome Packets, that will include such things in a folder as:
Latest Newsletter, copy of the bylaws, membership form, "Info Guide",
Water conservation Kit, trees for Tucson Form, Tucson Weed Yourself info
sheets, perhaps such things as microwave popcorn, or certificates for
local business (like a cup of coffee at the Bread and Butter). Nathanael
and Fran agreed to work on the packets.
