American Creosote Works EPA Update

Nancy Neiger submitted Sanders Beach Community Association?’s grant renewal application to EPA Atlanta at the end of June, 2005. On August 9, 2005 Denise Bland of EPA Atlanta called to advise that as of September 30, 2005 all reimbursable activities cannot be guaranteed, effectively taking away TAG funds that have been very helpful until now. Her reason given was congressional funding of the budget. Letters to communicate the urgent need for grant renewal to Congressman Miller and Senators Martinez and Nelson are being sent. If you want to add your individual voice, get letters to mail from Nancy. There is still so much that needs to be done in our neighborhood clean up efforts.

More sad news to report (for us, at least) is that Craig Smith has resigned his position with EnSafe, Inc. to take a position with a firm in Wyoming. His expertise will be sorely missed, and we extend him our deepest thanks for all that he?’s done to get us a little more educated about the superfund site in our neighborhood, and by being better educated we are able to push more effectively for clean up solutions. EnSafe is presently interviewing candidates for his replacement, and Craig has given us a good review on at least one, who would be willing and able to take over where Craig stopped.
