  • Respect-O-Meter: Respected Neighbor

ACW Project Manager Shea Jones visited Pensacola, FL July 23, 2008 and made a neighborhood presentation at Grotto Hall about the creosote site and the Environmental Protection Agency's newest soil sampling test results, an update about the OU-1 groundwater clean-up which is ongoing (and likely to continue for 20, 30 or more years.  Shea also took questions from the 50+ residents and interested parties.  All in all it was a good presentation.  Newer Association members seem quite frustrated that "warp speed" in reaching the end of the site's clean-up and capping isn't happening, which indicates their unfamiliarity with typical government process, which is "hurry up and wait".

Please, everyone, have patience.  If you aren't familiar with the environmental hazards of the site, please visit EPA Region 4 American Creosote Pensacola and read some or all of the information contained there.  It doesn't take a lot of effort to know what's going on in your own neighborhood.

Consider bugging your City Council representatives, too.  They have had a reuse plan in a fancy binder for 5 years and have done absolutely NOTHING to bring the plan higher on their city priorities list. Understand that before Pensacola allows money to be spent in Sanders Beach they must cover their expensive plans to fund the Maritime Park.

Thanks to the News Journal for the great pre-meeting article.  Too bad the newspaper didn't think the meeting important enough to cover while it was happening!  O, well, that's the News Journal for you - nothing like consistency!

Anyway, please check the web page for links that will be added soon on the ACW site, and if you have specific questions please post they here if you like; if at all possible an answer will be obtained for you.
