Cooperation would be cool instead of the different and strange focuses but in this generation?

Here are some comments from Paul Mowrey to update us and more to come.-

Hello All,  The Pidge Tavern was located at the corner of Pidge Street and Pawtucket AVenue.  A stop on the way from Proviidence to Boston.  The building was built around mid 1700s, I believe George Washington stopped there.  The complete history is on the PSP Calendar for 198-.  The bottom line is that the building was around into the late 1930s, it was sketched in 1933 and then razed for the builidng now on the site, a tire company.  Calendar text says that the interior was saved.  I will get the calendar and give a more complete description over the weekend.  Paul.

Thanks! Although I'm sure I saw a plate of it with a caption saying it was restored in 1940. I also read elsewhere that it may have been built as early as 1660, and Gen. Lafayette preferred to stay there rather than more modern inns in Providence because of its antiquity (which may be why the next adjacent street to the tavern site is named for him). I figured Paul would have the answers and will definitely discuss with him next time I see him around.

This material is absolutely amazing.  Where did you obtain the materials?  Do you have a personal archive?  Absolutely terrific.  May I use the material when I teach a "Rhode Island History" class in late 2009?

Unfortunately I can't give permission to use them. I believe they're from the RIDOT archives; I got them from a co-worker, who got them from his grandfather, who in turn got them from the Providence Public Library. The Library or RIDOT may be of some assistence, though.

"Rhode Island history" class... Makes me wish I was back in high school.

Dear MMP,

Please feel welcome to sit in with the Rhode Island History class at Shea High School during the early autumn of 2009.  Our syllabus incorporates all the important events of Rhode Island from 1000 to 1960.

Peace,

Jim Matuszek
