The Sedgefield Neighborhood Association is dedicated to promoting community involvement, to improving the quality of life for Sedgefield residents, and to building and preserving a close working relationship between local government, stakeholders and residents of Sedgefield. SNA is always informed of nearly everything that happens around here because of well-developed relationship and communication network.
The SNA is NOT aligned politically and promotes no platform or agenda except as dictated by neighborhood needs. SNA is NOT a homeowners association. SNA is open to any and all residents of Sedgefield. We do not levy assessments for maintenance or require compliance with covenants or restrictions, Of course, the City does have ordinances that we help to enforce.
Issues that involve the neighborhood association are initiated mostly by the City or County. The City may have funds available through voter approved bonds such as the current Neighborhood Improvement Project (NIP) which provides sidewalks, curb and gutter, and other improvements to certain neighborhoods. The City may undertake infrastructure projects such as with the storm water or sewer system, or street resurfacting. The same is true of traffic calming, i.e. speed humps and stop signs. Such projects are prioritized by the City based on complaints from neighbors. Sedgefield and other close in neighorhoods often receive more City attention because of the age of our neighborhoods and our rating on the bi-annual Quality of Life survey.
Another category that involves us so often is nearby development and rezoning petitions. The City requires petitioners to notify residents (and neighborhood associations) in proximity to the subject property. We are also involved with school or library facility plans. And, while we are dealing with the issues that come at us all the time, the board is researching programs available to us that we can use to improve Sedgefield beyond the City mandated projects. Examples are park renovation, neighborhood matching grant projects, and banding of vulnerable trees on private property, street tree planting, to name a few.
