FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Community Action Agency Announce Weatherization Program
OKLAHOMA CITY (April 24, 2009) - Jim Sconzo, Executive Director, of the Community Action Agency of Oklahoma City and Oklahoma/Canadian Counties, Inc. announced today his agency is accepting applications for weatherization of area homes. Weatherization is a program designed to have a major impact by reducing energy consumption, lowering utility bills, and making homes more energy efficient and comfortable place to live. Services provided by CAA include: air infiltration, attic insulation, wall insulation, minor roof repair, exterior doors, window caulking, minor wall and floor repair, weather stripping, CO testing and window replacement. Applicants for this service must live in Oklahoma or Canadian Counties, meet federal income guidelines and have not received weatherization services since 1993. Priority assessment is given to senior citizens, family members with a disability, young children, income level, fuel type used in home and date of application. Situations which warrant special consideration such as unusual medical expenses and small children under six are reviewed by a special committee. Landlords can receive these services after signing a contract which prohibits the tenant from being evicted without legal cause. Landlords are also forbidden from raising the rent following for one year fullowing the completion of the weatherization project. Jim Sconzo said, "Our agency has provided this service to the public since 1974 and are excited that our agency can offer services again this year."
