Abuse of Landscape Islands

I don't know the proper term for those landscaped little islands on each cul-de-saq, so I'll call them "landscape islands".

We have some children that are using them as playgrounds, and they're slowly tearing the one up on Long Trail Ct.  They already broke one branch of a pine tree, and are constantly bending down other branches as they climb it, which is extremely dangerous in and of itself.

They're digging in the dirt almost every night around the lightpole, for reasons that escape me, but in the end, it is making the whole thing look trashy.  It even looks like they've damaged the concrete curbing around it by scoring it with sharp objects.

There are plenty of places to play in this addition, backyards being the best choice, but there's also a large playground a few blocks away that we all pay good money to maintain.  Parents need to keep a better eye on their kids and steer them into less destructive and dangerous activities.

I couldn't agree with you more! I noticed this week how bad the grass looks on the island. There are patches of dirt all over. And the poor Pine Tree has had the crap beat out of it. I've expressed concern over them climbing on the tree and breaking the limbs in years past, but it hasn't done any good. They still climb all over it. It is ultimately up to the parents to make sure they are safe and to keep the destructive behavior at a minimum.

Or we can look at this way. If they kill all the grass, that's one less area that will have to be mowed which should cut down on our landscaping/maintenance costs! Cool

We have the same problem. Most families keep watch of their children but it seems there is ALWAYS 1 family that lets their ratz, er, I mean children run loose. We have a baby-factory family here and they seem to think they are "special" and let the ratz run loose, mark up everything and tear up the islands.

People like that need to find a nice trailerpark to live in...they would fit right in.

Well my son is one of them that plays there.  He is not old enough to go to the park alone.  If there is damage being done, most of the neighbors that I know all know each other well enough, and would not hesitate to come talk to me or one of the other parents about it.   The kids that play in this area are all good kids and are being just that....kids.  I have volunteered my time to pick up trash, and fix the playground equipment in our neighborhood.  Have you?

As far as the one calling kids "ratz", your comments speak for themselves.
