ATTENTION! ALERT! Although (to my knowledge at least) this has not yet happened in our neighborhood, it very well could happen. A friend of mine at work was recently robbed, household goods and valuables taken, all while his family was in the house sleeping. I learned that this is not a rare occasion, according to the police. These are pros that obviously have no problem violating others' property, and makes me wonder if they would not stop at physically harming others that got in their way as well.
The reason I am writing this is to forewarn others, especially as to how easily these criminals gained entrance into my friends home. Although he rarely parks his car outside in the dirveway, this night he did, and all it took was a broken window to get his garage door opener out and raise the door enough for someone to slide underneath the door. From that point his door leading into his home was unlocked (his second mistake), and from there they ransacked his home, even knowing all were asleep. I know many have alarm systems, but for those that do not, you may want to consider parking your vehicle inside to avoid this, if you are in this situation. It only took this one time that he parked out. Also, be sure your garage door is closed overnight (yes I have mistakenly left mine open before), as well as obviously used doors/windows. I hate to look over my shoulder all the time, but after talking to him I can't seem to help passing the word so others are not violated as he was. At least no one was physically hurt.
