My friends,
That's good news about the Visitors' Center being back up to us again, Janet. Thanks to you and Diane for speaking about this with Chris Smith.
As this story shows, we make our own luck by supporting people in public office who share our community interests. When Lars was hitting his head against a wall trying to get this done through the Parks Department, he simply wasn't talking to the right person. That's what council people are for and Chris and Peggy took care of us on this one.
With an eye toward the future, I attended the City Council election kickoff rally for Maria Baier this morning at Roadrunner Park. Maria is running to succeed Peggy Bilsten as our District 3 Councilperson. I know Maria from the Lookout Mountain PTO and most recently Maria gave us critical support in our drive to stop the Salvation Army store from going into the AJ's plaza. Holly Moore will attest to this - Maria set us up with a zoning attorney who spent two hours with us on the phone and Maria's own questions showed a strong grasp of the issues. She's smart, energetic and from our neighborhood. She's also running a smart and strong campaign - the Mayor and Councilwoman Bilsten were at the kickoff this morning as was Supervisor Kunasek and Councilwoman Peggy Neeley. She's doing it right and she deserves our support.
Maria and Mayor Gordon will be holding a petition drive next Saturday morning at the Starbucks in our AJ's center. I believe the time is 9:00. I encourage all of you to stop by Starbucks next Saturday morning to show your support for Maria. Annadele and I will be there - I hope to see you there too.
- please forward this message to our Neighborhood Association email list - Thanks!
