Neighbors: We have banded together over the past 2 years and successfully put the brakes on the growth of hiker parking in our neighborhood. We negotiated, attended meeting after meeting and spoke out from our heart. Finally the city proposed a parking lot expansion plan everyone could live with. However, the city recently set a property abandonment hearing for petitioner, Carl D. Vimmstedt, which involves a significant piece of property incorporated within the parking lot proposal. From where did this originate? Does anyone have any background on this issue?
The neighborhood association has the following concerns: This abandonment may will mean the parking lot plan will have to be redrawn due to changes in walls and landscaping. What other changes will be thrown in?
Another issue of concern is the mystery surrounding what Mr. Vimmstedt intends to do with this property, i.e., will it be zoned commercially now? Eventually? It looks like we need to once again unite and insure the neighborhood's interests are protected so to insure the safety of all of our residents.
If you are interested in attending the hearing, it is scheduled as follows: Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at 10:00a.m. located in Assembly Room C, 1st Floor,
Phoenix City Hall,200 West Washington, Phoenix, Arizona.
Application: V020090A **Revised** Applicant: Carl D. Vimmerstedt Subject: Requests to abandon the 30-foot section of right-of-way located on the west of property address 1 East Aster Drive.
For further information, please call Karen Garcia, Abandonment Coordinator, Development Services Department, at 602-256-3487. If you cannot attend the hearing, please contact Karen Garcia at the number above and voice your concern.
