Skyview South

Where the horses and prairie dogs play... Pt.2

May 14, 2001

Thanks to everyone who attended the Thursday, March 29th meeting with Kathleen Reavis from the City of Fort Collins. Kathleen and Tess Jones, Colorado Department of Transportation spokesperson, presented the South College & Harmony Road Access Management Plan. It involves limiting access to South College by closing off some of the frontage road passage points and the use of "circulator" streets. These are streets that would provide entry to South College businesses from the rear.

They also discussed widening South College to three lanes each way and having bike lanes and raised medians.

There doesn't seem to be any definite time table to the South College Access Management Plan, and the plan itself is in an evolving state of change. If you have questions or suggestions, Kathleen may be reached at 224-6140 or e-mail: kreavis@fcgov.com.

The property on the northwest corner of Trilby and College was briefly mentioned; the rezoning is still being considered and the developer and the City haven't come to agreement on what to build there. Some of the possibilities mentioned were an Albertsons with an adjoining strip mall or apartments.

The possibility also exists of the area being protected from development, as is the land just north of Tynans' Nissan on the west side of College Ave. If you have valid reasons why the area should remain in its natural state, please write a letter to: Steve Olt, City of Fort Collins, Current Planning, P.O. Box 580, Fort Collins, CO, 80522-0580. Steve is the planner on the project. They are particularly interested in knowing which types of wildlife inhabit the area.
