Volunteer Opportunity:
Goodwill Youth Services’ School to Work Mentoring Program
Mentoring:
School To Work Mentoring is a school-based program that pairs one adult mentor with one high school student that has requested a mentor. Mentors and students meet 1 hour per week at the student's school for one school term or one school year. The meeting times are during the school day (1 hour per week between 7:30am-1:30pm, M-F). As a STW Mentor, you will be helping your student individually with his/her resume, applying to college, applying for a job, or just listening as he/she sets goals for life after high school. Schools participating are Arvada HS, East HS, George Washington HS, Lakewood HS, Lincoln HS, Kennedy HS, South HS, and West HS. You can be a Mentor to a student whose school is near your home or work. Plenty of support and training are provided by our Mentoring team!
One-Time Volunteer Opportunities:
Guest Speakers and Panel Members: We are always looking for volunteers to speak about their careers or college experiences! Share your insight on the “work world” with a class of high school students to help them understand the value of work ethic, interviewing skills, and conflict resolution. These students need to hear your perspectives about life after high school.
Mock Job Interviews: Mock Job Interviews are a great way to volunteer individually, or with co-workers, businesses, and friends! You will actually 'interview' one student at a time, using a list of suggested questions that we will provide. Your evaluation determines the student's grade for this important project!
Resume Workshops: A Resume Workshop will include you and the other volunteers explaining your career and why resumes are important to your career. Then you will help the students edit/revise their current resumes. These students are writing their very first resumes!
