Councilman Garcia to hold District 1 Community Forum with Special Guest Peter Park

Denver, CO – Councilman Garcia announced today a community meeting for residents in his Council District. The forum will feature Peter Park, Director of the City and County of Denver’s Planning and Development Department. District 1 residents will have an opportunity to hear from Mr. Park about a wide-range of current planning and zoning projects underway throughout the city and also hear from residents about their concerns for zone lot scrap-offs, no off-street parking requirements for certain legal business uses that are grandfathered, the new Main Street Zoning and the implementation of Blueprint Denver among other issues.

Councilman Garcia recognizes that the popularity of Northwest Denver as a place to live and work has created new development pressures in certain neighborhoods. “Since Council District One is experiencing somewhat of a renaissance in both housing and commercial growth, I felt it timely to have Mr. Park attend my quarterly community forum to address ways for communities to influence that growth,” says Garcia. He adds, “Mr. Park is a very capable and experienced planner and architect and we are very lucky to have his leadership on some very timely and important zoning changes facing Denver.”

Peter Park was appointed Director of Community Planning and Development on January 14, 2004 by Mayor Hickenlooper, and manages over 200 employees that provide Denver’s planning, zoning, and construction permit and inspection services. He was formerly the City Planning Director in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he helped establish comprehensive planning, awareness of design and creating the Milwaukee Development Center. Mr. Park also holds an appointment at the University of Colorado at Denver as an Adjunct Associate Professor of Urban Design.

The Community Forum will also include other updates on Council district issues and projects as well as an update on crime and police matters to be presented by Police Commander David Quinones. As always the forum is an opportunity for residents and the Councilman to discuss other pertinent issues and all other areas of concerns.

The District One Community Forum will be held at the Councilman’s Community Meeting Room on Saturday, March 11, from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. at 2701 Alcott Street, Suite 280. Mr. Park’s presentation will begin at 9:00 a.m. and conclude by 10:00 a.m.
