Denver, Colo. (Feb. 17, 2006)—The community is invited to a public workshop of the St. Anthony Central Redevelopment Task Force. The event will be held 5 to 8 pm on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006, in Auditorium A & B at St. Anthony Central Hospital, 4231 W. 16th Ave., Denver, Colo.
Parking is available for $1.00 in the hospital’s parking facility near the corner of Stuart St. and 16th Ave. Some parking also is available on nearby streets. Refreshments will be served at the event.
At the Feb. 23 workshop, members of the public will have the opportunity to review and provide comments on the task force’s draft recommendations for use of the St. Anthony Central Hospital campus after the hospital vacates its current location in 2010. In March 2005, St. Anthony Central Hospital announced its intention to relocate to a more expansive site in nearby Lakewood, Colo.
Established by Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper and Denver District 1 Councilman Rick Garcia with the assistance of St. Anthony Hospitals, the task force is comprised of more than 35 business people, community activists and residents. Councilman Garcia, St. Anthony Hospitals CEO George Zara and Laura Aldrete, assistant director of Denver Urban Renewal Authority, are co-chairs.
With a final meeting tentatively scheduled for March 29, 2006, the task force and its various subcommittees have been meeting since August 2005. Its work will culminate in a report of recommendations, which will be submitted for consideration to the City and County of Denver, St. Anthony Hospitals and its sponsor, Catholic Health Initiatives. Definitive plans for redevelopment of the campus then will be established, a process that likely will take a number of months.
