HOMES WITH STRUCTURAL CONCERNS

Feb 19, 2005

In the last newsletter, the board asked homeowners if they had problems in or with their homes that they felt the builder should be held responsible for, to let us know. We have received only two responses. It appears that this issue is not as widespread as thought; therefore, the board will not get involved. Keep in mind, a lot of time has gone by since these homes were constructed, ownership for some homes has changed multiple times and various third parties may have done work in your home possibly making it difficult to ascertain fault for a problem. Instead we advise homeowners that have such issues to check their home warranties and/or home insurance policies, get an inspection of the problem(s) and seek competent advice on how to proceed. This may include, but is not limited to contacting Metro Codes Enforcement, an attorney and/or qualified contractor. NOTE: If your problems began around the time demolition was taking place for the construction out front, you may be able to address that with the contractor or developer of that property.
