Block Captains Needed

National Night Out was August 2nd and, thanks to our block captains, there were 118 fun block parties held that evening in St. Louis Park, including eight in the Sorensen neighborhood.

Block captains play an important role in building the community. They help keep residents in touch with what is going on in the neighborhood, which helps to develop a sense of community. The Neighborhood Watch is a program, through the City of St. Louis Park Police Department, that encourages residents to work together toward creating and maintaining a safe neighborhood.

The Sorensen neighborhood, consisting of 30 blocks,
currently has 11 block captains and is seeking additional volunteers to serve as block captains. The goal is to have a block captain for every block.
The duties of a block captain are few. Initially, you would host a block meeting at your home, during which a representative from the SLP Police Department would explain the program and discuss crime statistics and prevention for the block. You would also organize a get together on National Night Out, the first Tuesday in August. The Sorensen Neighborhood Association has grant monies to help cover the cost of the initial meeting.
