The May Neighborhood meeting was sparsely attended but very productive. We celebrated qualifying for both a $7,500. NAP grant and a $1,000. Neighborhood Matching Grant. The results of these are now evident in our Park. The speaker for the evening was our own Bruce Hagensen who spoke in support of the proposed Convention Center. The meeting ended with Mari Greves volunteering to organize the annual dumpster cleanup...
The June dumpster cleanup was a success. Saturday, June 23rd, 2001 was a perfect early summer day. 1.64 tons of yard debris and 4.14 tons of bulky items were carted away free of charge by the City. We will qualify for this service again next year. If you want a free and easy way to get rid of your accumulated treasures, just volunteer to chair this event and you can put the dumpsters in front of your house. You can't beat this event for free and easy. I want to extend a thank you to all the neighbors who helped out during this cleanup. A dedicated core group pitched in and handled a lot of other people's junk. THANK YOU!!!
That same day another good deed clean up project also went on. A thank you goes to Bishop Andersen and Shelly Linfesty and their group of volunteers from the Church of Latter Day Saints, Fisher's Landing Ward, who cleared a dumpster worth of ivy from the Blandford Drive gulch area. They celebrated their hard work with a picnic in the Park. To all you hard workers, a big thank you from Southcliff residents. English Ivy was recently classified as a noxious weed in Oregon.
September 22nd marked the "End of Summer: Cookies and Lemonade Social". The weather cooperated agian with a sweltering 80 degree day. Approximately 40 adults, children and even two dogs enjoyed the afternoon. The high point of the event was a get rid of the weeds extravaganza. We filled an entire yard debris recycling container in under an hour. Flying shovels and quick hands made short work of the offending weeds. Our park is beautiful again. Thank you to everyone.
