As Overland Park contemplates how it can spur reinvestment in commercial and residential properties in its aging areas, its initial focus will be along Metcalf Avenue between Interstate 635 and Interstate 435.
Last week, the City Council's Community Development Committee voted unanimously to begin work on a Metcalf Corridor Master Plan that Councilman Curt Skoog, who introduced the proposal, said would establish a long-term vision for the Metcalf corridor and examine how redevelopment projects fit into the city's overall objectives. Skoog said individual redevelopment projects have already been occurring in the corridor without a comprehensive vision that could create synergies.
