Our November 8th neighborhood meeting was VERY successful - over 100 people attended. Many thanks to everyone for the great turnout and your interest in preserving our neighborhood.
Skip Moon, Director of Neighborhood Conservation for the City of Overland Park, provided an overview of the city's efforts to assist neighborhoods. Other guests included our Ward I City Council representatives Dave Janson and Terri Happer-Scheier, and John Rod of the planning department. Mr. Rod stated that once again, the planning commission hearing has been postponed to Monday. November 28th. and that the city council hearing will likely occur just before Christmas. Given the holidays, the timing of these meetings is not helpful to our neighborhood.
There was strong and unanimous neighborhood opposition to the rezoning application for the northeast corner of 71st Street and Metcalf Ave., from R-l (low density residential) to RP-3 (high-density residential). Concerns included:
?• Traffic
?• Parking
?• Property values
?• Public safety
?• Drainage
?• Water/wastewater
?• Trees
?• 3 stories
?• Precedent setting
Groups were formed to address these issues and to prepare for the planning commission hearing. Arranging these issues into a clear and cogent presentation is our next task.
