Neighborhood Crime Watch

Posted in: Southern Springs Home

Wanted to let everyone know about what I saw tonight.

I noticed a suspicious car in the neighborhood this evening while I was riding my bike.  About 10p I saw headlights down SS Blvd and the car was parked by a court in between houses.  It stayed there for a couple of minutes then moved up to another house further down the street and parked again for a couple of minutes.   I finished up my ride then I noticed a slow moving car heading out of the condos on the south side of Stop 11.  I happened to see a police officer that I thought was patrolling the condos at the same time.  When I pulled in the condos, I found that the car pulling out was the suspicious vehicle I saw in SS and the same driver.  I went to talk to the officer, but he disregarded my complaint since he was off duty and going home for the evening.

The driver seemed to be lurking in the two neighborhoods.  He had a piece of paper and seemed to be either looking into garages or maybe writing something down.

The car was a blue-ish late '80s Ford Tempo - or similar - vehicle.  It had some kind of damage or unpainted areas of the car.  It made alot of noise when it was moving.  Maybe he was looking for an address, but I don't want to take any chances.

As a resident of Southern Springs, I want to say "Thank You" for bringing this to our attention. It's unfortunate the police officer didn't follow up on your concerns since he was off duty, but I'm sure he could have passed the information on to another officer. We have a great Crime Watch program in our neighborhood, & appreciate all helpful information passed on to our residents.

My father was a police officer for 28 years, and he was constantly, even after his retirement, asked by neighbors to help out with a myriad of concerns.  He never once blew off a request, regardless of whether or not he was on or off duty!  Things sure are different now than they were in years past.  That's probably one contributing factor of the rising crime rate.
