VIA Reviewing Its Bus Service

Mar 03, 2002

At the Jan SWCA meeting, VIA representatives indicated that, for the first time since the metropolitan transit system was established in 1978, they are reviewing all bus service with the intent of overhauling it to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Attendees at the meeting asked many questions and gave many suggestions. VIA said they are aware that many people in our area don?’t have the traditional Monday- through-Friday work schedules and may need increased bus service earlier in the morning, later at night, and on weekends. They are also considering 24-hour service and more dial-a-ride capabilities. SWCA asked for more east-west bus service along Old Pearsall Road for people traveling to the growing number of businesses and in time for the Southwest Side City Service Center which is to become operational in May. More connecting routes to Palo Alto College was also mentioned. VIA is still collecting and studying information and will return to a future SWCA meeting to explain their suggested changes for our area. If YOU want to know what VIA plans and give YOUR feedback, come to that meeting. We?’ll keep you posted.
