In the last couple couple of weeks I have been informed of several vehicle break-ins that have occurred in the neighborhood.
The holiday season is the time when burglars tend to increase their activity. This is when we need to increase our vigilance.
We need to keep a closer eye on what is going on in our neighborhood and on our street.
- If you see a suspicious vehicle, get the license number and description and notify the police.
- Report any suspicious individuals walking around the neighborhood. (If you have solicitors coming to your door, ask them from an ID from the company they say they represent. Ask if they have a permit from the city. I feel some of these ''solicitors'' are doing nothing more than scoping out potential homes for future burglaries.)
Several individuals tried to break into my home as they were putting fake door knob hanger fliers on homes throughout the community. An alert neighbor saw what was happening and called the police. The robbery was prevented.
- Make sure you don't leave valuables in plain site in your vehicle.
- Make sure you lock your home when you leave.
- Make sure your vehicle is locked.
- Don't leave garden equipment or bicycles outside.
- Close your curtains so robbers cannot see how many presents are under your tree.
We all just need to be more alert to any unusual happenings and practice good home security. If all just practice good common sense we can eliminate a lot of the problems.
