7/16/07 Meeting Minutes

Sep 04, 2007

At 7:00pm on July 16, 2007, President Mel Raley called to order the meeting of SAOTGA.
Treasurer James Lester reported our bank balance of $3,616. Disbursements since last month were $40.70 to Singing River Electric and $34.24 to Speedy Spivak for flyers.
Vice-president and membership chairman Spivak reported 221 homes and 29 slabs in St. Andrews. Twenty-three properties are for sale and 2 are for rent. Membership now stands at 105.
The 1st Annual St. Andrews Summer Bash is scheduled for August 25,2007. Activities planned include a golf tournament, putting contests, face-painting, a rummage sale and food by the club. Details are being worked out and more information will be provided as soon as possible.
Our meetings will be scheduled for the 2nd Tuesday night at 7pm, every other month, beginning in September. At the next meeting we will vote on whether we want a stop sign installed at the intersection of St. Andrews Drive and Tantallon. Petitions are being circulated both for and against the stop signs. Majority vote will be reported to the Sheriff or County Supervisor John McKay.
Jackson County Civil Defense Director Butch Loper spoke about the seriousness of West Nile. None has been reported in the county so far, but Harrison County has had one dead bird confirmed to be carrying the virus. Dead birds should be picked up with tools or gloves, double bagged in plastic and taken to the local health department. He also urged residents to prepare now for the hurricane season and made available pamphlets with evacuation routes and tips on preparations.
Lt. Col. Jon Talbot of the Hurricane Hunters gave a presentation on how they partner with NOAA to collect data when flying into hurricanes.
Fountainbleau fire chief Mike Belton and Gulf Park Estates fire chief Marshall Robinson spoke about their assistance during most any type of emergencies, including fires, hurricanes, accidents, and medical emergencies. Their response time is between two and five minutes.
Thanks to Terry Powell for obtaining surplus shrubs from Edgewater Mall for St.Andrews.
Greg Williams, St. Andrews Water Dept. Owner, answered questions about water quality and pressure. He has applied with the Public Service Commission to build a new ground-based water facility on Biddix-Evans Road. No rate increase now, but will be evaluated for increase of possibly $4-$7 per month. He states that our water meets health dept. standards. Any problems should be called in to his office where they are logged in and responded to. He will address individual problems with pressure, smell, leaks, etc. He will mail out report on water quality.
John Hilburn suggested installing a flag at the front entrance. Due to time constraints, it was decided to discuss this at our next meeting.
