Hey, peeps, long time no post! I just thought I'd pop 'round and inform anyone who is interested of some anti-drug actions that have gone on and are about to go on, on the 34th Street corridor, on our ''western front'' so to speak! What follows is an e-mail from Andy Garr (a.k.a., St. Pete's Drug Czar, ''Garr the Czar'') of the city's 'hood department, sent to those of us active in the city's anti-drug marches. It sure would be nice to see more folks from Historic Kenwood participate in these marches, especially those who complain about pockets of drug activity within our neighborhood. As I have often said before (and no doubt will again *lol*), community is like a garden, it is a process, it is never ''done''. A garden needs weeding and tending, and we are never going to be too good for that, or ''beyond'' getting some dirt under our nails in order to nurture our garden. For anyone interested:

Thanks to Mrs. Zelma Hennessey and her daughters Jaunita and Zerella and great grand daughter Lyric for visiting from the SWAD (SouthWestview Against Drugs)Turn Around group in Columbus, GA! What Mrs. Hennessey and SWAD have done in taking back their neighborhood is truly awe inspiring. She is the real example of a steel magnolia. She will be back in June with some of the other SWAD drugfighters and the ROC (Reclaim Our Children) kids they work with.
34th Street Vigils-Last Sat.'s vigil was the 5th in the last 2 weeks! The prostitutes and drug dealers are starting to get the point. Great work by the Days Inn and Budget Inn night managers.
Big Friday night vigils planned for 34th Street and 33rd and 35th Streets from 1st Ave. to 13th Ave. North next month (this will be in conjunction with 34th Street Federation) and future ones for Palmetto Park tot lot, Melrose Mercy play lots 2 and 3, and TwinBrooks.
