It seems that my neighbors house was broken into today with her 17 year old daughter and granddaughter in the house. Luckily neither was hurt by the burglar physically but god knows what may have happened. From what the police said and what I have heard from neighbors there has been an upturn in burglaries and carthefts and drug dealing in HK in the past few months. Enough for the police to leave a message on my answering machine to watch out for car thieves. This trend DISTURBS THE H--L OUT OF ME AS A RESIDENT OF HISTORIC KENWOOD. How will it look for Bungalow Fest if we are having so many criminal acts that the police are calling us to warn us of the problem.

I am asking everyone who reads this to tell everyone they know to call the Mayors Action Hotline and, in a rational as possible way, voice your opinion about our problem. The phone number is 893-7311. Call often and give your name or address if you feel comfortable. This is as important an issue as any we have faced in recent months or even years. We don't want to see or read about one of our neighbors murdered or raped or beaten by some thug. This hasn't happened yet (KEY WORD YET),but it may if we don't act to protect ourselves.

I am not advocating vigilante action at all just ASKING that we look out for each other. If you work at home during the day keep an eye out for your neighbor. If you see anything unusual call the police.THE SQUEAKY WHEEL GETS THE GREASE. The police non-emergency number is 893-7780. If you see something blatantly criminal call 911. This is extremely important if we are to maintain the quality of life that so many of us worked so hard for. DON'T SLEEP THROUGH THIS CRISIS. LETS GET SOME ACTION OUT OF THE MAYOR'S ACTION HOTLINE BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. I am imploring you to act. As a devoted neighbor and citizen of Historic Kenwood I pledge to do all I can to help in this time of need. Marches vigils whatever we need to act.

Burglaries

Hey Paul,

I don't think that these robbers are focusing on our neighborhood,(read the post on ther Northshore Neighborhood Site) As for the messages on peoples telephones, I think that the police targeted certain telephone prefixes and sent out a blanket message about car thefts. They are on an upswing throughout the city.

But I do encourage people to be smart in the prevention of home burglary.
KEEP OUTSIDE LIGHTS ON. KEEP WINDOWS LOCKED. This is just common sense all year long.

Less than two weeks and counting,,,,, Kathy

Targeted or not

It doesn't matter to me if we are targeted or no. My point is that we need to be proactive rather than passive. The excuse that its happening all over doesn't cut it. We need to help bring about a change. If that means more police or more neighborhood activity from us so be it. I will not except the answer that it is happening all over.
