The drug dealers have moved - to 2nd Ave., the alleys, and Burlington between 20th St. and 23rd N. They are there day and night. ALL are rental units. They don't care if it's day or night, lit or not or if they are being watched. And their activity has increased about 50% since the police have been notified. When you call the police, they just ask alot of questions like what are they doing? Are they bothering anyone? Etc. etc. and no one comes. What is Crime Watch, see crime and watch it?

My advice would be......Don't be anonymous and get involved.

...is this the same ''anonymous'' who is against the drug marches?

If so....I find it curious.

If not, one positive thing you can do is to join the citywide drug marches. They are held throughout the city, usually once per week, wherever the police department decides we are most needed that week. Last week it was just west of downtown, and also last week the St. Pete marchers went over to Tampa to help them out. This week there was a march in H. Kenwood. The way to get involved is to call Andy Garr with Neighborhood Partnership at 893-4110. I can't tell you a night and time that we meet, because it changes every week, which I feel is a problem. I feel the night and time should be set, as people are very busy in 2002 and can't switch the night around each week, although switching around once in a while when needed for some reason would be okay. ANYWAY, if you are interested in getting involved with this very effective method of rooting out drug dealers and cleaning up neighborhoods, give Andy a call.

Other than that, when you see something going on that is illegal, call the non-emergency police # (or 911 if the situation warrants), and let our community police officer and/or your Crime Watch block captain know, also.

As we say in the marches, if you aren't part of the solution, you're part of the problem. I'm sorry to hear the problem has kicked up to the degree you describe there in that area of our neighborhood again. If you want, when you call Andy, you can certainly tell him about that and ask him if a march could be held there--he wants people to suggest places to march. Then he will coordinate that with the police. Peace out!
