Beach Drive traffic plan

Posted in: Historic Old Northeast
Last night at the North Shore Meeeting I heard that the traffic plan, which I voted on LAST YEAR is being stalled by the city- or as we were told, that it has been transferred to "engineering" from "traffic". Of course, the chair of that committee wasn't there, so no one could really explain what was going on.

Also- this was voted on like I said awhile ago. But this older man gets up to trash the whole thing at the meeting.Excuse me? Doesn't the association support this? And to allow that man to make statements like" that meeting for the vote was scheduled to be on a stormy night", well. that's you know what. The meetings are always the same Monday of each month and by that point there had been so many votes taken and meetings held it was obvious the neighborhood wanted this traffic calming done.
I am angry about this- who is going to follow up and see that the city does what it promised? Or are we going to wait for some people to get killed on Beach Drive before anything is done?

Beach is bad, but not as bad...

...as 9th Ave. No one stops at the stop signs, drivers merely slow down--at least some of them.

I would like to see 9th eliminated as a cut throught to 4th, personally. I am not sure, however, how that would be accomplished.

traffic plan

I agree- I thought Beach Drive improvements were to start Jan. Rumors are flying around the neighborhood that
a few influential people are "fixing"
the whole thing. This is not fair to
all the people who worked on it.

One man, who I won't name, came to meetings drunk. But he is seems to have a big clout with some power people. He
didn't like the plan but was outvoted again and again. So has he gotten to
the power people? If so, this is not a democracy anymore and it makes me sick.

I have seen dogs killed, a person hit (several years ago), more car accidents than I can count, and many more close calls than I can count on Beach Drive.
People speed and they don't see it as a street where people LIVE ! Many of the
speeders are neighbors, too.

Please, let's DO SOMETHING and not allow the rich people to dictate to the neighborhood.

9th and Beach

Both these are out of control. Beach is worse because it carries more traffic
and it is going to get worse when downtown starts rolling along with the theaters. The Vinoy carries alot of
responsibility for these problems: they need to talk to their employees about
parking, speeding, noise, atc.

9th can't be one way because of the
parking problem. But, if the court order could be lifted whoich bars left hand turns at 9th and 1st, it would really help 9th avenue between 1st and 4th, which has become unliveable.

And what is this moving of the plan from traffic to engineering? Someone please explain.
