Per Monday's meeting, the deadline for applications for City grant money is August 4 and no NSNA ideas have been proposed yet.
Do we have a reasonable chance to meet the deadline? If so, to whom should ideas be sent? I have a couple but don't know if they are eligible or can be developed before the deadline.
FYI, grant information is posted at this City's web page:

Grant Ideas
Lights along 4th Street similar to the lights Uptown placed on 9th Avenue which i believe Uptown received a grant for. These lights just went in last week. I think they look good. It would be nice to run them down 4th from 5th to 22nd and then from 22nd to 30th. Or from 5th to 9th then 9th to 22nd then from 22nd to 30th.
Just an idea.

Preserve trees
I like your idea, JC. If restrictions apply to 4th Street because it is FL DOT, perhaps Beach Drive or 1st Street could be candidates.
It'd be wonderful to have the whole neighborhood lit by ''pedestrian friendly'' streetlamps. And I understand that such lamps are better for crime prevention too.
Briefly, here are two related ideas I have. Don't know whether they would qualify or overlap city services:
1. Preserve the old (oak) trees on public easement. I'm saddened to see so many trees in need of mistletoe removal, disease treatment, decent pruning, etc.
2. Conduct an education campaign about tree care. People lovingly tend their lawns and flowerbeds but how much attention is paid to the tree canopy that exists overhead?
I suppose even if there's no time to get a grant proposal organized by Aug 4, 2000 (especially cost estimates), the good news is that we have 12 months to prepare for the next deadline.

It appears to me that many City Governments up north are more proactive in maintaining their trees in the City ''right of ways''. Our City seems to only show up when THEY think it is time for a tree to be removed.
I may be well off base here. But this is my perception. Our city seems to be doing a good job planting new trees. Now lets get them to maintain the old ones.
