Board Reality Check
July 8, 2000
OUR board, who at this point consists of very few individuals whom were actually VOTED into their current positions by the neighborhood membership needs a REALITY CHECK.
Over the last 45 days OUR board has lost one thoughtful president, one very active board member, an award winning newsletter editor, an eager proof-reader, and countless more ''potential'' volunteers. Careful observation should tell us several more of OUR valuable board members are on the verge of calling it quits, as well.
In addition, just last week OUR board voted to remove an interim president, on the job for less than one month,''without cause'' in a questionable, though very calculated action riddled with personal agendas.
WE remember the neighborhood MEMBERSHIP voted for this individual as president-elect just seven months ago!
What has resulted is a clearly divided and ineffective board, half of which appear to have been assembled due in part to what quadrant of the neighborhood in which they live and/or ''life-style'' choices. (maybe ugly to some, but honest and open!)
Furthermore, WE, the MEMBERS, now have ''inherited'' a president through board appointment whose measurable contributions in the past are unknown, without benefit of a real selection process or prior scrutiny by the MEMBERSHIP.
Perhaps most importantly, OUR new president has publicly announced during the recent board meeting, and was quoted in the Times, as not even wanting the job!
This should give US a real comfort level as to where this once well-respected neighborhood organization is headed!
WE are challenging OUR board to make significant and positive changes NOW!
