To: Steve Deal
First off, I would like to thank you for signing your name to your posting. Secondly I would like to thank you for informing us on how you voted.
Steve, your posting sounds genuine but your message falls a little bit short of way short. Let me explain.
You say I am disliked by the majority.
You say that I run my mouth when giving committee reports and the like at general membership meetings. What would you have me do, be silent? Not give the reports. Explain everything to you so you could make the reports for me?
You say that you have lived here for 7 1/2 years and were ''thrilled to live in a neighborhood with such a strong association''. And thats good. And, I did not do everthing for North Shore over the last 12 years by myself. No way. There were hundreds and hundreds of folks who did the work and volunteering. I was just one steady volunteer. But like others, I do believe that one of the handprints on the development of North Shore is mine so when you speak of a strong association, you somewhat speak of me also. But I digress.
You say that you volunteered numerous times to be on my committees. And over the last four years that has only been landscaping, NDR and Historic District. Each of these committees has had anywhere from five to thirty people on each of them at any given moment. No one was ever turned away by me. No one has ever complained to me as you do now.
My name and number is continuously posted in the newsletter each month. I dare say it has been in every issue for 12 years. I do not remember ever receiving a call from you.
Remember Steve, this is a volunteer organization not a recruitment organization. The way it works is that you take the initiative and call the committee chair and you come to the committee meetings. You make all of these kinds of efforts. I don't recruit. I do post requests in the newsletters. Then when people like you call me I say, meet me at 4th and 5th avenue on Saturday at 9:00 A. M. Thats how it works for lanscaping, as an example.
As for your ''croonies'' comment, here this. I was president of North Shore in 1991 and I could and did nominate committee chairpersons. Prior to 1991 I had no authority to nominate committee chairpersons. From January of 1992 until Joyce Fry resigned I had no authority to nominate anyone. The past presidents who could nominate are: Mary Alice Lange (two years as president), Kathleen Ford, David McEwen, Debra Cimminarro, Cary Burns, Time Baker, Rob Wertz, Lane Lastinger and Joyce Frey. Since Joyce's resignation I only had about three weeks to nominate folks.
Now having said this, I add the following. If my recollection is correct there are about 20 plus various committees and or work positions, like editor, or secretary, or designated person to pick up the mail, or the monthly folding the newsletter group, etc. or replacing the light bulbs in the entry monuments, etc. etc. etc.
I do not control all of this.
You could volunteer anytime to do any of these kinds of things and you would'nt have asked me or my wife. You would have asked or talked to any of those presidents listed above or the other ten committee chairpersons. Mind you I have nothing to do with the Tour of Homes comm., or membership comm., or social/events comm. or traffic comm. or codes comm. etc. You could volunteer for any of these without passing within ten miles of my house. So, don't wait to be recruited. It won't happen. So remember this, WE ARE A VOLUNTEER ORGANIZATION! So go out and volunteer. And for goodness sakes, please do not listen to that one (1) neighbor any more. Gadds-Zuks man, think and volunteer for yourself.
