The Fourth Annual Old Northeast Candlelight Tour of Homes Committee meeting will take place Wed., August 15, 7:00 p.m., 156 9th Avenue N. The committee is in the phase of planning that focuses on home selection, sponsor recruiting, inviting hospitality house to participate, poster and booklet design...come join us!

The next Board Meeting will take place Tuesday, September 11, 6:30 at the Sunshine Center.

The next Membership Meeting will take place Monday, Sept. 17,7:00 p.m. social, and 7:30 p.m. business. Topics will include a pictoral survey of the neighborhood by the Planning Committee; discussion of proposed revisions to Bed and Breakfast Ordinance; discussion of proposed townhome project at 9th Ave. N. and Third Street.

Townhome Project

The developers of a proposed townhome project met on three occasions with the NSNA Board and Neighborhood Design Review Committee. The developers were responsive to discussion, and altered their original plan from a three-story to two-story five unit condo, and they removed the curb cuts and garage from Nineth Ave. N. and the line of garage doors and curb cuts on Third Street. However, the version permitted recently by the City has interior parking--that is, parking in the interior of the lot between the structure and the neighboring single family home. So, the auto noise and unappealing view of the back facade of the structure will alter life for the family in the home next door. We had encouraged the developers to place parking and garages on the alley, consistent with the majority of our traditional neighborhood. The project will replace a 1920s single family home and garage, which will be demolished or relocated, according to the developers.

Thanks to the Board and Design Review Committee. Curb cuts and garage doors facing the street or avenue would be the pits. Just do not understand why architects can't draw up plans to fit the neighborhood and not hurt homeowners. Lack of imagination and creative ideas.
