2005 Tour of Homes-Notes

Posted in: Historic Roser Park
Let's document ways to make next year's TOH better than this year.

Here are some of my notes:
1. Start planning 2 months ahead
2. Ask City to sweep streets (1 mo ahead)
3. Distribute fliers 2 weeks ahead
4. Display large banner sign on MLK 2 weeks ahead (where drivers can see it)
5. Add 'lunch' to list of tasks to assign someone - to either buy something or make something to distribute to volunteers during tour.
6. Notify all volunteers to find walkie-talkies and get them charged before day of tour.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Good idea

Way to go Deb! You've made a good list and I've got a couple of items to add to it. I may think of more later.
7. Have the brochure text and photos done 2 weeks ahead.
8. Have brochure completed 1 week ahead
9. Get advertisements for brochure to defray cost (printing in color could cost around $900 for 400 copies. Historic Kenwood spends about $1500 for their brochure and it is paid for with these adds.)
10. Have hosts of tour homes committeed one month before. Home improvements don't need to be finished but safe from liability.

Who is next to contribute?
2005 Tour of Homes

Start planning earlier. Now would not be too soon...

Identify homes on the tour much earlier and have brochures completed 2 weeks to a month before the day of the event so we can distribute them around town. Plan for enough time to shop the printing around for best rates.

Expand advertising to more publications and sooner. (research suggest that the same ad needs to run for at least 1 month before it reaches its maximum potential effect)Radio spots? TV? Citilife, weekend magazines?

Expand marketing to tap into unexplored revenue streams - IE sell T-Shirts, refreshments, cups, hats, posters, key chains, door prizes, raffles etc...

Hand out survey cards with the brochures and solicit feedback.

Do not hold the Tour on Mothers Day (or any other holiday weekend).

Begin park clean up planning efforts much earlier. Several days of litter patrol etc... are required to get the whole park in tip top shape. Start calling in codes violations and pestering parks dpt. 6-8 weeks out
