Old Business:
Incentives are being offered to help hurry the highway construction taking place on New Cut Road.
Pot-holes are to be fixed on National Turnpike at the bridge beside the Yorktown Senior House.
Metro Parks is working on a master plan for all metro area parks, and this plan should address bridges to Jefferson Memorial Forest, wider roads, and signage along the roads to the forest.
The Airport Re-location Program is waiting for the Governor to sign on in support of a resolution to provide money to offer to the last hold-outs for airport expansion. According to Ron, this resolution should be coming in December.
The Renaissance Zone is being planned to attract good quality jobs to our district, leading to the more diversification of our community. It is hoped that in two to four years, companies will re-locate to the R. Zone and bring better jobs.
New Business:
Steve Lutz, from the Office of Planning and Design, spoke briefly about the differences between form districts and zoning classes, knowing that the task of this committee is to help formulate an over-all plan for growth and development of our district.
He discussed with us the change in form district classifications being proposed so that east of Nash Rd. will be classified as a Suburban Workplace Form District and west of Nash Rd. will be classified as a Neighborhood Form District.
Barriers will then be set so that no more industry or commerce can spread into the residential sections. For example, Tolls Lane will represent a barrier for residential and commercial. With this separation in mind, it is hoped that the Old Salt Dome can eventually be moved into the Renaissance Zone, and other commercial sites cna also be re-located away from residential areas, for example, on Keys Ferry Rd. and South Park Rd. near the South Park Country Club.
Mr. Lutz also discussed with us the proposed zoning change to accommodate the new Super Wal-Mart on Outer Loop, changing from C1 to C1 and C2. Here the form district classification will also change from Neighborhood Form District to Suburban Marketplace Form District. The Super Wal-Mart will be a large-scale development that should attract other retail stores to our district.
