Present: Ron Weston, Steve Clark, Dave Marlow, John Gatton, Linda Duncan, Lauren Lochmueller, Marcie ___, (from 3rd Division LMPD) Officer Burks and Maj. Darice Wiley
Report from 3rd Division:
Maj. Wiley reports that the most common calls for police in our division are related to traffic, robberies, and property crimes. 4 or 5 meth labs have been uncovered. Property known as South Hill (above Candlelight) has had two fires - it's vacant - kids have been partying there.
The officers were asked about motorized scooters being operated in the streets of our subdivisions by kids under 16. According to the officers, any motorized vehicle needs a licensed driver to run in the streets. A parent can be cited and the motorized vehicle/scooter/go cart confiscated.
Concerning police presence in the forest, Maj. Wiley will be calling Maj. Ray about a plan for LMPD to help patrol forest areas, this funded through a partnership of some sort.
The officers were reminded of the Fairdale Fair scheduled for September 24.
Linda requested from Officer Burks that a police officer be asked to attend Yorktown North's monthly Block Watch meetings. The next one is July 7 - 7:00 p.m. - at Epiphany UMC on Southside Drive.
David Marlow wants to know how to contact police at a non-emergency number. He was given 574-2111
John Gatton reports that there is a speeding problem in Leemont. Also, he wants to know how to re-establish Leemont's Block Watch Committee. He was directed to call Renae Stigall in LMPD Community Relations.
Marcie reports that the library is being used by kids this summer, but some are being left there without parental supervision, creating disruptions.
Lauren (Neighborhood Youth Board) reports that she has about 10 young people who attend her program regularly. 200 completed inquiry sheets but transportation to the meeting site at the Playtorium is a problem. Field trips are being taken via use of a Metro Parks van when it is available. Her educational workshops are a little challenging because one person cannot instruct and supervise non-participants there at the same time. Community service projects are being sought.
Adjourned: 5:30 p.m.
Next meeting - August 16, 2005
